Nowadays, everyone talks about stress, resilience, mindfulness, cortisol, dopamine, serotonin, anxiety, depression, etc. It is a continuous flood of information about problems and solutions for our mind. We wander through the world and life receiving daily stimuli from advertising and information of different kinds. All this triggers different moods : envy, resignation, despair, happiness, tranquility, and a host of emotions. But I ask you a question:
What would you do if you knew a big change was coming?
Imagine that today you receive the news that you have won a cash prize large enough to solve your financial life, but the check will arrive within 15 days, since the amount is very large and needs to be reviewed, but it is 100% certain that you will receive it. What would happen to you?
What would those 15 days of waiting be like? Worries would go away, stress would disappear, a large part of our frustrations would disappear. But you know what? You still don't have the money, it's not in your bank yet, but your mind has already changed everything, it has already fixed everything within you. You wake up calm, you see life as beautiful, happy, and you enjoy that morning coffee without worrying about anything. But I repeat, there are still 15 days left until the money comes in.
It's all in your mind
You choose what you give strength to. The example of money is to show how an external stimulus can change our entire life, our mind and our problems. Create every morning that solution to what you need to solve. Don't depend on the outside to solve everything. If you have something to do, do it, don't waste time, don't put things off. That's what they call procrastinating, but again, it's an external stimulus. Talk to yourself, every day improve a little, improve a lot, but improve. Don't stop improving, making small or big changes, but act. Imagine that you won that prize and start living that beautiful journey of life.
The power of resilience
Stress creates a myriad of changes within you, both physically and mentally. I don't know what each of you's problems are, but I do know that we've all been through a stressful situation at some point. That's where resilience comes from, that ability to adapt and overcome adversity. After a high-stress experience, such as a loss, a failure, or an unexpected problem, we have two options: stay stuck in the same place or move forward and prepare to face greater challenges in the future.
Extrapolating this to everyday life, your family, your assets, your existence will always be on the brink of an unexpected event. Not only logistical preparation is necessary, but also mental preparation to foresee future events and recognize dangers in time, as well as knowing how to act after an unexpected event.
A lesson from history: Resilience in action
I want to share with you a true story of resilience: In 1993, Morgan Stanley, located in the South Tower of the World Trade Center, was hit by a terrorist attack. Although it did not cause major damage, its head of security, Rick Rescorla, a Vietnam veteran, understood that the threat could happen again. For years, he implemented strict evacuation plans and trained the company's 2,700 employees for a major emergency. His foresight saved thousands of lives on September 11, 2001, when the Twin Towers were attacked again. Rick Rescorla sadly lost his life while helping others evacuate, but thanks to his preparation and resilience, 2,700 people lived to tell the tale.
This approach not only underlines the importance of being prepared for the challenges that may arise, but also the need to cultivate a resilient mindset that allows us to act with clarity and effectiveness when the unexpected occurs. Life, like this story, teaches us that we must always be ready, not only for today's problems, but also for the greater challenges that may come tomorrow.
